GEORGE BROWN 3, TRENT 2 (FINAL)
PETERBOROUGH, Ont. - It was straight sets win for the Trent varsity women's volleyball team, and a heartbreaking 3-2 loss for the varsity men's teams, as both squads played a rare Tuesday evening contest against the George Brown Huskies.
The Excalibur men fell to 1-9 on the season after the five-set loss to George Brown. The visitors stormed out taking the first two sets 25-18 and 25-12. Trent battled back as they were able to take the third and fourth sets 25-22 and 25-21. The final set was a back and forth affair, but the Huskies pulled away late to take the set 15-11 and earn the win.
Trent's Chris Jacklin (Dryden, Ont.) had 17 points in the loss. Jacklin counted 12 kills, three aces and two blocks. Brad Keizerwaard (Holland Landing, Ont.) also had a big night in the losing effort. Keizerward had 11 kills with one ace and four blocks. Jurgen Gorenca (Tirana, Albania) chipped in nine kills and two aces for the Excalibur.
Both teams are now off until the new year. The Excalibur will open up the second half of the season hosting cross-town rivals, the Fleming Knights. The games will take place on January 11 with the women beginning at 6 pm and the men following at 8 pm.
