ST. LAWRENCE (K) 3, FLEMING 0
KINGSTON, Ont. - For the second consecutive year, the St. Lawrence Vikings women's soccer team has clinched an Ontario Colleges Athletics Association (OCAA) qualifying game, and will play this week against the fifth place team in the east, currently held by Loyalist College. The Vikings solidified fourth overall after a 3-0 victory over Fleming College on Sunday.
Megan Hutcheson opened the scoring in the 26th minute, but came off the field shortly after, having suffered a minor foot injury.
"By the way the game was going at that point, Hutchy (Megan Hutcheson) scored a great goal that ignited the girls. We made the decision to pull her from the game and rest her foot for the qualifier game," said St. Lawrence head coach, Natasha Agaoglu.
Megan Simpson chipped in the great goals in the 36th and 62nd minute, leading to the 3-0 SLC victory.
"All the girls played really today," said Agaoglu. "It was a complete team effort. Right from our goalkeeper Sammy (Sam Turcotte), to our defenders keeping Fleming out of our end, and to our strikers who found the net in a big way today."
The time and date of the qualifying game has yet to be confirmed but it will take place the week of Oct. 6-11 at home. The winner of the qualifying game advances to play in the OCAA quarter-finals, where they will have a serious test against the first-place college from the OCAA west, currently occupied by the 6-0 Sheridan College Bruins.
