ALGONQUIN MEN'S VOLLEYBALL TEAM TAKES TIMBERTOWN INVITATIONAL
CALGARY - The Algonquin Thunder men's volleyball team has started 2012 with an impressive championship performance at the TimberTown Invitational Tournament at Mount Royal University in Calgary, January 2-4.
CALGARY - The Algonquin Thunder men's volleyball team has started 2012 with an impressive championship performance at the TimberTown Invitational Tournament at Mount Royal University in Calgary, January 2-4.
Algonquin opened the tournament with a straight set victory over Red River College 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-23) then defeated MacEwen University 3-1 (22-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-20) to end pool play.
In the medal round it took back-to-back five set thrillers to capture the 2012 title. Algonquin defeated Memorial University in the semi-final 3-2 (22-25, 25-17, 25-22, 23-25, 15-9) to advance to the final against the host Mount Royal. Algonquin then defeated the Cougars 3-2 (22-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-22, 15-7).
After losing their first three matches at the TimberTown
Invitational Tournament, the Mohawk Mountaineers finished their
play at Mount Royal University with a straight sets victory.
Mohawk downed Briercrest College 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-16) on
Wednesday.
