DAY 2 COMPLETE AT OCAA WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL PROVINCIALS

Semi-Final #2 - Humber 3, St. Clair 0
The final match score of 3-0 was deceiving in this one though. The Saints had significant leads late in both sets one and two but could not put the Hawks away. Humber played well late and refused to give up. The Saints battled hard in all three sets but could not take one from the Hawks. The set scores for Humber were 25-22, 27-25, and 25-23.
The Hawks remain undefeated on the season after going 18-0 in the regular season and 2-0 in the playoffs. Humber are ranked No. 1 in Ontario and No. 2 in Canada while the Saints are ranked No. 6 in Ontario.
The Player of the Game for Humber was Gabie Miletic who spread the ball around well with 25 assists along with four kills and one service ace. Brynne Spence-Coleman led the Hawks offensively with nine kills and two service aces.
St. Clair's player of the game was Taylor Fitzgerald who had a solid all around match. The Saints were led offensively by Angela Evans who had 11 kills, two service aces and one stuff block.
Humber now advance to the gold medal game against the Durham Lords on Sunday at 5 p.m. while St. Clair will contend for the bronze against Niagara at 2:30 p.m.
Semi-Final #1 - Durham 3, Niagara 1
The Niagara Knights took on the Durham Lords but couldn't pull off the upset in the first semi-final game of the OCAA Women's Volleyball Championship presented by belairdirect held at the St. Clair College SportsPlex on Saturday night.
The Lords, 18-0 during the regular season, managed to hang on for the win, taking the first two sets 25-20 and 25-17 before the Knights came back winning the third 25-22. However, the Lords advanced to the final with a 25-21 victory in the fourth.
The Knights were 15-3 in the regular season, and last year's OCAA silver medalists. They were led by Rachel Rivers who had 12 kills and 10 digs and was named Player of the Game for the Knights.
For the Lords, Shannon Dean was named Player of the Game with 18 kills, three service errors and one stuff block. The OCAA Player of the Year Allison Marshall had 14 kills, two service aces and one block for the Lords as well.
Durham advances to the gold medal game which will be played on Sunday at 5 p.m. against the winner of St. Clair and Humber while Niagara contends for bronze at 2:30 p.m. against the loser.
Consolation Semi-Final #2 - Algonquin 3, Loyalist 1
The Algonquin Thunder came out with a win against the Loyalist Lancers in the consolation semi-final, winning three of four sets at the OCAA Women's Volleyball Championship presented by belairdirect held at St. Clair College's SportsPlex on Saturday.
Loyalist looked hopeful in the first set, but came up short against the Thunder, 25-23. In the second set Loyalist bounced back winning with a final score of 25-19. Algonquin regained control in the third set winning 25-21. The fourth set was 25-20 for the Thunder who advance to the consolation final game on Sunday at 12 p.m. against the Fanshawe Falcons.
Algonquin came into the championship with a record of 15-3 while Loyalist was 11-7 on the season. The Player of the Game from Loyalist was Emilie Leneveu with a total of eight kills and one stuff block. The Player of the Game from Alqonquin was Breeane Scheerhoorn who had a total of 16 kills, one stuff block and 14 digs.
Consolation Semi-Final #1 - Fanshawe 3, Cambrian 2
The Cambrian Golden Shield put up a strong fight against the Fanshawe Falcons to take them to five sets, resulting in a 3-2 Fanshawe win at the 2017 OCAA Women's Volleyball Championship presented by belairdirect held at St. Clair College's SportsPlex on Saturday.
Cambrian had a strong effort in the first set winning 26-24; a tough loss for Fanshawe going into extra points. Going into to the match Fanshawe was finisehd fourth in the West Division with a record of 10-8 while Cambrian finished sixth in the West Division with a record of 9-9.
In the second set Fanshawe came back from a seven-point deficit set winning 25-16. In the third set, Fanshawe had a late start down 7-1, but came back with a win of 25-21. That made it 2-1 for Fanshawe but the Falcons could not handle the lead as the Golden Shield came back in the fourth set with it on the line winning the set 25-20.
The fifth and deciding set was 16-14 for the Falcons. Players of the Game were Kailey Bastien from Cambrian Golden Shield with a total of eight kills and five digs. For the Fanshawe Falcons it was Meghan Morelli with a total of 21 kills, five service aces, two stuff blocks and 12 digs.
Fanshawe will now advance to the Consolation Final against either Algonquin Thunder or the Loyalist Lancers at 12 noon on Sunday.
