HUMBER TAKES DOWN FANSHAWE TO ADVANCE TO THE OCAA CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL
The Humber Hawks win the Semi-Final game 70-51 over the Fanshawe Falcons.
The Humber Hawks look for another OCAA gold medal with a decisive 70-51 victory over the Fanshawe Falcons. The Hawks claim the first spot in tomorrows Championship game.
The Falcons were the first to strike, but the Hawks ran away with the first quarter going up 13-2 before the Falcons could get another basket. CCAA All-Canadian, OCAA Player of the Year and West 1st team All-Star, Ceejay Nofuente showed her stuff hitting back to back threes and putting 8 points on the board for the Hawks. The Hawks Player of the Game and 2nd team all-star, Aleena Domingo, matched Nofuente's pace scoring 6 points of her own. 1st year Claire Dechet and the Falcon's Player of the Game Ali Vlasman scored the only two baskets for the Falcons in the first, going into the second quarter down 17-4.
The Falcons clawed their way back in the second quarter with a better defensive presence. Vlasman added 7 more points and led the Falcons. 4th year Laura Vere, named as a West 2nd team all-star contributed 5 points for the Falcons. The Hawks were held to only 10 points in the second quarter. Nofuente picked up a couple of free throws as the Hawks saw their lead diminish to 3, 27-24.
The Hawks came out of half time with the same energy as the first. Nofuente led the scoring with 10 points including a huge three-pointer at the end of the quarter. The Hawks scored 25 of their 70 points in the third quarter, shutting the door on a Falcon comeback. Vlasman accounted for 7 of the Falcons 9 points in the third as they trailed 52-33 going into the fourth quarter.
The Falcons fought back in the fourth with Vlasman putting up another 12 points and 3rd year Maddie Kielar adding 5 of her own. But the Hawks continued their pace as Nofuente scored 7 and first year Miea Campbell took control of the boards with 4 rebounds, she also added 2 points towards the Hawks 70-51 win.
Ali Vlasman was the stand out player for Fanshawe scoring 26 of the Flacons 51 points. Mikahaila Wright had 8 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 points for the Falcons. While 2nd team all-star Natalie Warren contributed 6 points and 5 rebounds.
Ceejay Nofuente dominated the scoring for the Hawks with 27 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Domingo closely followed with 17 points, 10 rebounds and 1 steal to help the Hawks advance to the championship game.
