TORONTO - The Seneca Sting is proud to announce the hiring of Brian Bates as the new men's baseball coach.
A former Ontario Baseball Coach of the Year, Bates brings over 30 years of coaching and playing experience on the diamond. Bates has been a coach for Baseball Canada and was a head coach with the Ernie Whitt Baseball Camps.
At the international level, Bates coached the Eastern Ontario All-Star baseball team which went undefeated throughout the tournament.
Regarded as one of Canada's top coaches, Bates' love for the game began as a youth. As a draftee of the Boston Red Sox, Bates rose through the system to play at the A, AA and AAA level. Off the field, Bates has shared his knowledge through a pair of manuals, "Major League Dreams" and "From Little League to Big League".
What stands out the most about Bates is his resumé working with youth players. Four players have represented the maple leaf in international competition and three have been drafted into Major League Baseball.
In working with student-athletes, Bates believes that every player who puts on the Seneca Sting uniform will learn something about themselves and about baseball and most importantly, they will have fun doing so.
Bates will be at the helm as the Sting enters into the sport of baseball for the first time since the early 1980s. Previously, Seneca competed in the National Junior College Athlete Association (NJCAA) and were a part of the Penn-York Conference.
