October 18, 2005 - St.Clair College is set to host the top collegiate golfers from across the country as the 2005 PING CCAA Golf Open Championships tee off in Windsor, ON. Hosted by St. Clair College and held at the Fox Glen Golf and Country Club, the tournament will be contested over three rounds of golf from October 20-22, 2005.
The OCAA will be joined in the Championship by golfers from the Fédération québécoise du sport étudiant (FQSE) Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) and the British Columbia Colleges Athletic Association (BCCAA).
Recently crowned OCAA Men’s & Women’s team champions, Durham College and defending CCAA men’s team champion Humber College (Etobicoke) will be looking to continue their success at Fox Glen.
"The 2005 PING CCAA Golf Open Championships are set to go. The top golfers from across Canada will be participating in the largest field ever for this event," indicated Mike Duggan, CCAA National Golf and OCAA Convenor from Durham College. "On the men’s side, the defending Champions, the Humber Hawks have to be one of the favourites to defend their title. Durham College, the 2005 OCAA Champions, will be a contender and will be looking for their school’s first ever National Championship title."
OCAA champion Will Mitchell of Durham College will be looking to continue his success in the individual event. Also in the hunt are several other top golfers from across Ontario including this year’s runner up and 2004 OCAA champion Tyler Martin of Durham and Humber’s Mike Zizek and Lee French who finished first and second respectively at the 2004 CCAA National Championships.
On the women’s side, look for Stephanie Brown of Durham, this year’s OCAA champion to make a solid run at the title. St.Clair’s Michelle Charron will also pose a threat for Championship gold. The first-year student has had a strong season with three top three finishes in invitational tournaments and finished tied for first at the OCAA Championship, but lost the title in a one-hole-playoff.
