In 1984 the OCAA Shield Award was created to honour administrators (athletic directors, athletic department staff, OCAA staff) for their contributions as a member of the OCAA Executive Committee or office staff.

Also in 1984, the OCAA Service Award was created. Its purpose was to recognize the volunteer contributions of administrators to the OCAA as a Sport Convenor/Consultant or Committee Chair.

In May 2001, the Shield and Service Awards were merged into one award, the Shield Award. At that time, twenty-nine persons had received the Shield Award and three the Service Award.

In May 2002 , the OCAA recognized the need to also honour the achievements of its former athletes and coaches. As a result, the formation of a Hall of Fame was approved at the association’s Annual General Meeting in Picton, Ontario. Three induction categories were approved: athlete, coach and builder. All previous recipients of the Shield Award were “grandfathered” into the builders category.

Over 200 people attended the inaugural Hall of Fame induction ceremonies and banquet on Wednesday, April 30, 2003 in Toronto, Ontario. That evening, guests were treated to reflection on the OCAA’s past as 56 athletes, 16 coaches and 32 builders were honoured with their induction into the hall.

There is currently no physical location for the Hall of Fame, however this web site was developed to provide recognition for those who have had significant contributions and achievements during their time within the OCAA.

The purpose of the Hall of Fame is to:

  1. Document, recognize and pay tribute to the achievements of OCAA Student-Athletes, Coaches and Administrators.

  2. Create historical pride in the OCAA among student-athletes, coaches, administrators and college administrators.

  3. Set a high standard and goal for current student-athletes, coaches and administrators.
