MARSHALL HEADLINES OCAA WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL AWARD WINNERS
WINDSOR, Ont. - Durham College's Allison Marshall (Orillia) was named the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Women's Volleyball Player of the Year in a ceremony held in Windsor, Ont., on Friday morning as part of the 2017 OCAA Women's Volleyball Championship presented by belairdirect.
WINDSOR, Ont. - Durham College's Allison Marshall (Orillia) was named the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Women's Volleyball Player of the Year in a ceremony held in Windsor, Ont., on Friday morning as part of the 2017 OCAA Women's Volleyball Championship presented by belairdirect.
Marshall averaged a team best 3.20 kills per set as Durham won the East Division championship with an unblemished 18-0 record. She totaled 220 points on 176 kills, 37 service aces and seven blocks for a 4.0 points per set average. The fifth-year outside hitter is also a Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) All-Canadian, as well as an OCAA East Division First-Team All-Star.
Jordan Koslowski (Hamilton) of Niagara is also a CCAA All-Canadian. The second-year outside hitter was the OCAA West Division Scoring Champion averaging 4.2 points per set. Koslowski recorded 203 kills, 46 service aces and 18 stuff blocks totaling 267 points. Koslowski is an OCAA West Division First-Team All-Star.
Humber's Breanna Golding (Pickering) is the OCAA Rookie of the Year. The outside hitter averaged 3.8 points per set to help lead Humber to a West Division championship with a perfect 18-0 record. She contributed 101 kills, 30 service aces and 30 stuff blocks for 161 total points. Golding is an OCAA West Division First-Team All-Star and headlines the OCAA All-Rookie Team.
OCAA East Division Coach of the Year Tony Clarke of Durham is the OCAA nominee for CCAA Coach of the Year. Durham won the East Division title winning 18 straight, dropping just five sets the entire season. Fifteen of Durham's final 16 matches were won in straight sets.
Sara Piana Yafu (Ottawa) of Loyalist was honoured as the OCAA East Division Scoring Champion. She led the division with a 5.0 points per set average, totaling 303 points on 248 kills, 29 service aces and 26 stuff blocks. The second-year outside hitter is also an OCAA East Division First-Team All-Star.
Centennial's Tryscelle Lin (North York) is the OCAA East Division Rookie of the Year. The outside hitter was among the league leaders averaging 3.9 points per set on 210 kills, 29 service aces and 10 blocks for 249 points. Lin is an OCAA East Division Second-Team All-Star and member of the OCAA All-Rookie Team.
Dale Beausoleil of Cambrian is the OCAA West Division Coach of the Year. Beausoleil led Cambrian to a hard fought 9-9 record, as the Golden Shield won their final five matches of the regular season to clinch a post-season berth.
In addition to Marshall and Piana Yafu, OCAA East Division First-Team All-Stars include Breanne Scheerhoorn (Belleville) and Julianna Tebrake (Ottawa) of Algonquin; Shannon Dean (Whitby) and Brier Kaake (Whitby) of Durham; and Georgian's Katharyn Avery (Barrie).
Joining Koslowski and Golding as OCAA West Division First-Team All-Stars are Darian Gropp (Kitchener) of Fanshawe; Alexandra Newman (Kitchener) and Devan O'Connor (Milton) of Humber; Alessandra Assaf (Hamilton) of Mohawk; and Niagara's Linnea Davis (Brampton).
Along with Lin, OCAA East Division Second-Team All-Stars include Algonquin's Rylee Leger (Alexandria); Mari Pikkov (Toronto) and Kadeisha Powell-Graham (Scarborough) of Centennial; Lucia Kalmeyer (Oshawa) and Megan Romain (Ajax) of Durham; and Loyalist's Emilie Leneveu (Belleville).
The OCAA West Division Second-Team All-Stars include Kailey Bastien (Val Caron), Amanda Kring (Capreol) and Jillian Vallier (Garson) of Cambrian; Humber's Gabie Miletic (Windsor); Niagara's Kennisis VanSoelen (Orangeville); Charlene DeVries (Mossley) of Redeemer; and St. Clair's Kaila Crough (Tecumseh).
In addition to Golding and Lin, OCAA All-Rookie Team members include Algonquin's Leger; Durham's Jessica Joensen (Pickering); Lindsay Wilcox (Waterdown) of Fanshawe; and Mohawk's Amanda Kuiper (Woodstock).
